The ICommander integration of ICommander Accounting Software with your own
private Internet (Intranet) is discussed in various areas. What about accessing
that Intranet from outside the Local Area Network (LAN) via the Internet?
This may be done with the same type of encrypted tunnel that is used to access the ICommander Account Systems remotely. However, it works a little differently.
The Anziowin encrypted connection for ICommander is direct. The remote Intranet access is not because we do not allow the port via which web browsers access web servers any access to your Linux server. An Open Source software package needs to be installed and configured on any remote PC that needs this type of access.
Its purpose is to redirect your browser through the same encrypted tunnel used by Anziowin for contacting ICommander. Only after accessing the Linux Server via this tunnel will you have access to the Intranet.
There are a few steps involved in using this type of access. If there is MUCH need for it, the Apache Web Server on your Linux Server may also be configured to allow direct encrypted contact via facilities in your browser and the Web Server. This is the same mechanism used when you access a secure web site on the public Internet. If you wish to have ICommander Support Staff configure your Web Server to allow this, we will insist that you spend some time learning how to configure and monitor this on an ongoing basis. You become much more open to the world, if you put it in place as direct browser connections then become possible.
NOTE that ICommander File Manager may effectively function as a portal through
ICommander to give remote users access to various resources available on your
Intranet. This enables using the normal Anziowin encrypted connection with the
strong ICommander validations. Files are easily downloaded or uploaded and
opening various types of files will automatically download to the remote PC just
like when you are using a browser. Not as pretty as using a web browser but it
is simple, fast, and very secure.
