Printing signatures on check forms can be a risky proposition. ICommander
Corporation has implemented this in the past for a site that controlled it by
limiting who was allowed to transfer a signature font file into the laser
printer used to print the checks. HP Printer commands were used by a custom
ICommander Check Printing program to access the signature font and print it
on the checks. Once checks were printed, an authorized user then needed
to remove the file from the laser printer.
We have more recently implemented printing signatures via ICommander Enhanced Printing and Print Wizard. This is done in a very secure manner that does not have the risk of someone forgetting to remove the signature image file or font from the printer. ICommander File Manager is used by authorized personnel to enable use of the check printing program and that authorization is immediately disabled when the user exits from printing checks.
A custom check printing program and authorization and control commands are
required so there is some cost involved. We have some customers who are having
ICommander print the signatures due to a high volume of checks and others who do
it for non-standard A/P check runs. The second case allows for authorized check
signers not being available to sign checks but having remote access to
ICommander to authorize the printing of the signature image when needed.
