All ICommander Application Systems menu choices for printing reports provide at
least three options for creating the report. The normal default option is to
create the report for printing via the ICommander Print Utility (Spooling). You
may also elect to send the report directly to any printer available to you in
either Line-Printer Format or using Enhanced Printing for Laser Printers. You
also always have an option to View the report.
The View option is especially useful when you are exploring the many ICommander Report Menu Choices available and trying to determine whether a particular report will be useful to you.
Using the View option to preview reports automatically puts your terminal in a compressed mode so that standard 132-column reports will fit on the screen. The report is accessed for viewing with the powerful Vim Editor. You may navigate with the Page-Up/Down and Arrow Keys but you will also want to learn a small number of Vim navigation commands. The Standard ICommander Help Topics Menu includes a PDF File that explains how to jump to the bottom or top of a report, search for a pattern ignoring case, and repeating searches either going up or down.
Upon exit from viewing a report, your screen automatically reverts to not being compressed and you will have the option to save the report for printing via the ICommander Print Utility.
Viewing a report also has an option to Browse as a Web Page. This is primarily
there to enable quickly converting a report to a Web Page for publishing on your
Intranet. It may be used for simply exploring a report but we highly encourage
using the Vim view instead. It is much more efficient and, when a large report
is involved, extremely fast. We have used Vim to explore and search reports
with over a million lines. It is amazing how quickly you can get to a pattern
you are searching for even when it is a few hundred pages down in the report.
