ICommander began implementing a Drill-Down approach in many display programs
in 2006. The Drill-Down was initially implemented primarily for displays where
a line on the Display Program List is tied directly to a specific record in a
specific file. The Drill-Down will display all details for the fields in the
selected record with an option to send that information to the ICommander Print
Utility. This is very useful when exploring what records are on file but
needing to see the details on selected ones without having to leave the Display
Program and call up the record in a Maintenance or Transaction Entry program in
order to get to the details.
The "Evolving" point relates to upcoming extensions of this ability to
multiple levels. The best example may be a display of G/L Account Balances
wherein selecting one of the accounts would take you to the program that
displays the G/L Detail making up the account balance. Selecting a record on
that display would then take you to the details of a Journal Entry or, in the
case of an interface posting to the details in the System G/L Distribution
History from which it originated.
