Why ICommander
ICommander has always had a strong audit trail of any transaction postings and had some areas such as Employee Master File Maintenance where any changes to the Employee Files were logged.

In late 2006 we began adding automatic Master File Change Logging for ALL Master File changes. The Master File Change Logging taps into the power of the Free-Form Data Extraction programs for the master files. Using the FFDE Field Definitions to do the logging enabled us to implement this using a single program to create the log records.

Every menu that includes a Master File Maintenance choice now has another menu choice that allows inquiring the changes made to that master file from whatever date is specified. Additions and Deletions of records have a single entry for the date and time the entry occurred. Any change to any field in an existing record will have a separate record indicating the field that was changed and the value in that field before and after the change.

We had requests from users and ICommander Support Staff for a way to track changes to Master Files in various areas. The manner in which we have now implemented it extends to ALL Master Files and represents a major enhancement for identifying changes made by users in all areas.

Access to Log of ALL Changes to ALL Master Files

In addition to the Inquiry option available on the same menu as the Master File Maintenance Program, ICommander System Control provides a route to the complete Master File Change Log across all systems.

Various options for analyzing the combined log files are available (such as extracting all changes made by a particular user to a particular system for a range of dates).

The System-Wide Log is a significant new internal control feature of ICommander.
