ICommander Software runs exclusively on the Red Hat Linux operating system.
Users access and use the ICommander Red Hat Linux Server from Microsoft Windows
workstations (WIN-98 through Vista) using the Anziowin Terminal Emulation and
Security software and Anziowin Print Wizard software for graphical printing.
That combination enables extensive ICommander facilities that could not be provided when ICommander was run on a Windows Workstation or Server. Our experience with first Unix and later Linux goes back several years. We prefer the Red Hat Linux operating system due to speed, stability, security plus the extensive free open source software it makes available.
A Red Hat Linux Server also substantially reduces the cost for a file server. Linux includes software that interacts seamlessly with Windows Systems and enables file sharing, centralized backups, and many other capabilities that are very expensive otherwise. Most of the Linux software is free. If upgrading a Windows Server is being considered, you should explore implementing a Red Hat Linux Server instead. The economics will surprise you.
We have extensive experience with Linux Servers due to ICommander Software installations. This includes both standalone servers (either new inexpensive workstations or old Windows workstations converted to run Linux) and via a Virtual Server running on an existing server.
Information Management, Intranet Management, and Security Features provided by ICommander have led some customers to installing ICommander solely for those benefits.
