ICommander Use of Red Hat Linux Software: The preferred platform for running ICommander is on Red Hat Linux. Speed and stability are two primary reasons for this. Additionally, Red Hat Linux enables MUCH ICommander functionality not available on Windows Systems. This includes the ability to function as a graphical application. ICommander Use of ICOBOL Software: ICommander runs under the ICOBOL Runtime System. ICOBOL was initially developed for mini-computers in the late 1970's and has continued to evolve, improve, and adapt ever since. It is extremely capable and its stability and error checking on modern computers reflects its long history. The base ICOBOL Runtime is always part of the ICommander environment. The optional modules are sometimes also installed with the Watch Facility highly recommended for multi-user sites and to facilitate our online support.

ICommander also provides and supports CUSTOM SOFTWARE. The design of the powerful ICommander Menu, Control, and Security System includes the ability to integrate custom extensions and/or replacements of standard ICommander programs for particular customers in a seamless manner. ICommander knows when to substitute a Custom Program and/or when to include Custom Menus with several programs that provide a custom function that integrates into the standard ICommander Systems.

A special facility is available for tracking all custom conversion programs developed to transfer data from a prior accounting software system when needed. This same facility also allows for occasional use custom facilities by accumulating in one place.

ICommander can also build complete custom systems. This can get expensive but is very useful for any organization that has unique needs that cannot be accommodated without it. The cost may, however, be much less than software license fees and support for expensive separate systems. This is especially true when integration with the standard accounting packages provides significant benefit to the custom application.
